Founded in 1866 as an engineering honorary, Pi Eta Scientific Society evolved into the Rensselaer Society of Engineers that exists today. Since our inception as a society, the development of a fraternal spirit and participation in all campus activities has brought us recognition as one of the top fraternities on campus. RSE is the only independent fraternity at RPI. We have chosen to remain independent because we feel that our complete freedom to set our own policies and make our own decisions far outweigh the small advantages of being associated with a national. We major not only in engineering, but also in each of the Sciences, Management and Architecture. Society members are active in not only campus and local activities, but are also in many national organizations.
Our membership is open to all students, undergraduate and graduate students, at RPI. We select our members on the basis of character, attitude, personality and ideals. Since our founding, members have directed their efforts into many areas. We take great pride in this diversity of interests. We are also very proud of the ties, traditions and mutual feeling of giving which binds us together in a brotherhood more than a century old.
