RSE Collects Awards, Commendations from RPI
By: Mark Anderson

Several things have been happening on campus lately, both at the house and within the larger Greek population.

In the spring, at the annual awards banquet held by the Dean of Student’s Office, RSE walked away with two awards. Congratulations to the men at the house for their outstanding efforts

Also in the spring, the members invited Dr. Shirley Jackson to RSE for dinner. After another splendid meal by our chef, Joe Augusto, Dr. Jackson gave a short speech and was kind enough to take questions from the floor. The evening went very smoothly and Dr. Jackson was clearly having a great time, especially as she reminisced about her past jobs, co-workers and even her graduate studies. Dr. Jackson was kind enough to compliment RSE on the evening at an RPI trustee’s meeting and again at the DOSO awards banquet.

Springtime also brought the twice-yearly Alumni Inter-Greek Council meeting, where yours truly was elected as president for a two-year term. Along with providing informational and update sessions to the Greek advisers, the AIGC has been working on a potential update to the Relationship Statement. First penned around 1989, the document has never been updated. A two-year revision process was completed, yielding a number of wording improvements, a number of simplifications and some new or enhanced requirements. The draft was put to vote in October; however, it was not ratified. The various concerns are still being collected and will be evaluated and addressed and a modified document will then be put forth for voting. The intent is to ensure that all Greeks have the opportunity to participate in the process.

Did you see the RPI Alumni magazine over the summer? Greeks were very well represented, with RSE in particular getting great coverage. There was a sidebar article on RSE and our recent growth and rebuilding. One of our recently graduated members, John Muller ‘03, was featured in two photos in that edition as well. Some of you may remember that John was voted Greek Man of the Year in 2001.

In addition to being TRO and dealing with mundane things like leases for the junior members, I also have the pleasure of serving as our chapter adviser. I attend many of the weekly house meetings (yes, of course they still have them) and continue to be pleased with how well the junior members run things.

Our house continues to be an asset to campus. I invite you to drop by the next time you come to Troy and visit with the members.
