Fall is upon us and with it has come the continued entrenchment of RSE on campus. While our name has been widespread for a long time, we are now able to achieve a campus status that only houses with the manpower/resources of the current brotherhood can imagine. RSE’s winning of Best IFC Participation and Best Membership Recruitment awards from the 2003 Greek Awards of Excellence were the first of many honors our house has received lately. We continue to have many brothers inducted to the Order of Omega, the national Greek Honor Society, including seven in the past two years.
One thing that is often not brought up is the amazing relations RSE holds with other houses on campus. RSE recently hosted a meeting of the presidents of RPI fraternities and received countless compliments regarding the clubhouse’s appearance and our involvement with Greek issues. As a result, many houses have been approaching RSE lately involving co-sponsored events, be it social and sporting events, or philanthropy/public speaking appearances. Clearly, other houses on campus have seen what RSE is doing, and they see us as a model. This week, we again had RPI’s Dean of Greek Life Brian Dominguez over for dinner. And, yet again, he remarked to me how amazed he was at RSE’s organization and commitment to Greek excellence.
Along those lines, a major topic currently affecting the RPI Greek community, including RSE, is the proposed relationship statement for RPI Greeks. Currently still up for debate and revision by the campus, input on this document is valued greatly by the junior membership. You can read the most updated statement at www.rpi.edu/dept/doso/greek/relationship_finaldraft.doc Send any comments to me at president@rsejm.org or to Mark Anderson at wodenickel@hotpop.com.
Lastly, I would like to address you all on a personal note. As a graduating second-semester senior, I would like to thank all of my brothers, active and alumni, who have made possible the amazing collegiate experience I have received from RSE. To have seen the house go from a suspended, written-off entity with less than 10 members to one of the most vibrant, award-winning, largest and prominent houses on campus in four short years has been a college experience beyond my wildest dreams. As I now become a member of RSE’s loyal alumni group, I urge all of you to remember how hard so many people worked to get RSE to its current flourishing state. It is our duty as alumni to ensure that this house has every opportunity to build off the amazing momentum this new century has brought us.
